Hello everyone! the project we've been working on in Spanish for the last month or so has been a writing project. We created a book in story jumper for the children in places of the world that can't read. Heres a link to mine with audio narration!
For this exhibition, we celebrated dia de los metros. This is a religious event from Mexico, meaning day of the dead. The beliefs for this event are that for one day a year the dead come back to visit. Now it is celebrated all over the globe usually by hispanics, Mexicans, or by latin based cultures. It is celebrated November 2. It is experienced through alters, candles, son de meurtos, which is a bread that contains orange juice.
I chose to celebrate my grandpa bob, my moms dad, and I wrote a paragraph about him in spanish. I chose to focus on him because i knew him, and he was a really good person. I used candles, and sage, and painted a picture to honor him and his life.
I think first I was very stressed about this exhibition, until I took a moment to think about what it symbolized. I got to paint faces for 45 minutes, and took the time to honestly think about death and what it leaves behind. Overall I was proud of the ending project, which looked mystical and was intriguing to look at.
